Article 102, paragraph 1, of Decree-Law No. 18 of 17 March 2020 introduced the qualifying degree in Medicine and Surgery. As a result of the aforementioned provision, professional qualification to practise as a Surgeon is obtained upon completion of the single-cycle Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery, subject to a suitability assessment for the pre- graduation practical training programme, as per Article 3 of Decree No. 58 of 9 May 2018 of the Ministry of Education, University and Research. Therefore, unlike in the past, it is no
longer necessary to pass a specific professional qualifying examination (written test).
Paragraph 2 of the same Article further provides that: “Graduates in Medicine and Surgery whose practical traineeship is not carried out within the degree programme, pursuant to Article 3 of Decree No. 58 of the Ministry of Education, University and Research of 2018, obtain professional qualification to practise as a Surgeon upon completion of the assessment of the practical training programme required under Article 2 of Decree No. 445 of 19 October 2001 of the Ministry of Education, University and Research.” In other words,
they may obtain professional qualification to practise as a Surgeon by successfully completing the post-graduate practical traineeship as stipulated under the previous regulations.
Professional qualification may therefore be obtained either simultaneously with or
subsequently to the relevant degree.
At the University of Foggia, pre-graduation practical assessment training placements are offered for the purpose of obtaining the suitability assessment referred to in Article 3 of Ministerial Decree No. 58 of 9 May 2018, which is required to obtain professional qualification to practise as a Surgeon simultaneously with the award of the Master’s Degree. Candidates must comply with the instructions set out in the following notice.
At the University of Foggia, in compliance with MIUR Decree No. 207 of 8 June 2020, post-graduate practical assessment traineeship pursuant to Ministerial Decree No. 445/2001 is offered for the purpose of obtaining professional qualification to practise as a Surgeon. Those wishing to obtain professional qualification after completing their degree must comply with the instructions set out in the following call for applications.
Post-Graduation Practical Traineeship
Admission to the practical assessment traineeship referred to in this notice is exclusively reserved for grad ates of the University of Foggia who do not yet hold professional qualification and who have obtained, or will obtain, a degree in Medicine and Surgery under the previous academic system (i.e. under the system preceding the reform referred to in Article 17, paragraph 95, of Law No. 127 of 15 May 1997), by no later than 31 March 2026.
