Guide to Enrollment in the Doctoral Programme

The University of Foggia has launched a support service for international doctoral students enrolled in its doctoral programs.

The service, launched by the International Relations Office, is called "International Students Buddy/Happy To Help."

What Is a Ph.D.?

A Ph.D. is a postgraduate programme leading to the highest academic degree in the Italian university system.
This highly specialized program enables students to acquire the skills needed to conduct advanced research at universities, public institutions, or private organizations.
Admission to a doctoral program is granted only to those who hold a master’s degree or a degree earned under the previous regulations, or an equivalent degree earned at a foreign university.

PhD Admission

Admission to the PhD Programme is based on a public selection process, which is held at least once a year.

  • Carefully read the call for applications (PhD notice) for the doctoral programme you are interested in.
  • Check the  Regulations on Taxes and Fees 
  • After reviewing the call for proposals, log in to the portal Esse3
  • Gather all the required documents 

The selection process may be conducted:

  • Based on qualifications.
    In this case, the final ranking list will be published at the end of the selection process
  • Based on qualifications and interview 
    In this case, the list of candidates admitted to the interview, following the evaluation of qualifications, will be published online
  • Based on qualifications and exams 
    In this case, the list of candidates admitted to the exams, following the evaluation of qualifications, will be published online
     

If you are admitted, you'll need to Registration on Esse3 by the deadlines and in accordance with the procedures specified in the call for applications.

To complete the process correctly, follow the Enrollment Guidelines and use the Forms available in the dedicated section.

International Mobility Period

The doctoral program requires students to complete a period of study abroad.

To register for their study abroad period, doctoral students must fill out the "Authorization for a Training Period Abroad" and the " formRequest for an Increase in Scholarship Amount"by sending them to [email protected] and to [email protected] .

To receive the scholarship increase, you must submit the document certifying the start of your studies once you arrive at your study abroad institution. The additional amount allocated for the study abroad period will be paid in the month following your departure. 

At the end of the period, however, you must submit the document certifying the completion of the activity.

All documentation must be submitted to [email protected] and to [email protected] .

Note: As provided for in Article 23 of the Regulations Governing the Ph.D. Program, the overseas institution must be “selected in consultation with the advisor and authorized by the Ph.D. Program Faculty Board.”
To request authorization, please fill out the Foreign Authorization Form. The same document, digitally signed by the advisor, must be sent to the Ph.D. Program Coordinator, at [email protected] and to [email protected].

PNRR Doctoral Students
For doctoral students receiving scholarships funded under Ministerial Decrees 351/2022, 352/2022, 118/2023, and 117/2023, the agreement form with the foreign institution must be completed and duly signed. 
This format is provided by the course coordinator, who will be responsible for submitting it to the Faculty Council for approval.
Filling out and submitting the signed form to [email protected] This is necessary for the proper reporting of the study and research period abroad on the MUR portal.
