Interculturalism, Social Inclusion, and Mediation in Educational Contexts

The Level I Master’s Program in “Interculturalism, Social Inclusion, and Mediation in Educational Contexts” is divided into four modules that will cover the following topics:

The master’s program aims to provide participants with comprehensive, multidisciplinary training to work in educational and social contexts characterized by cultural diversity. The main objectives of the master’s program include:
 

• Developing intercultural competencies: providing students with the theoretical and practical tools necessary to understand cultural dynamics, as well as the differences and similarities among different social and cultural groups, thereby fostering the development of positive and respectful intercultural relationships
• Training mediation professionals: equipping them with the skills to work as intercultural mediators in various contexts, facilitating conflict resolution and improving communication between individuals or groups from different cultures.
• Promoting educational and social inclusion: preparing participants to design, manage, and implement educational initiatives that foster social and cultural integration, active participation, and the celebration of diversity in educational and social contexts.
• Acquire the ability to design and manage educational initiatives: develop the ability to design and manage educational and social projects in intercultural contexts—including at the level of educational policy and regional development—while addressing the specific needs of diverse cultural and social groups.
• Training experts in intercultural communication: providing the tools to manage communication in intercultural settings, addressing the linguistic, cultural, and social challenges that may arise in educational, professional, and community contexts.
• To support the advancement of intercultural pedagogical theories: to provide a solid theoretical foundation in intercultural pedagogy, with a particular focus on inclusive educational practices that address the challenges of cultural diversity in schools, universities, and social services.
• Acquire practical skills in managing multicultural contexts: provide direct experience in managing intercultural educational and social contexts through internships, work placements, and field projects, in order to develop practical skills in solving real-world problems.
• Explore policies and the rights of cultural minorities: study educational and social policies at the national and international levels that promote the rights of cultural minorities, with a particular focus on human rights legislation, inclusion, and non-discrimination.
• To develop a global perspective on intercultural pedagogy: to offer an international perspective on issues related to education and intercultural mediation, while also analyzing global challenges related to migration, refugees, and cultural diversity.
• Foster the development of transferable skills: promote the development of transferable skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, empathy, and emotional regulation, which are essential for successfully navigating complex educational and social contexts.

These educational objectives aim to produce highly qualified professionals who are capable of addressing the challenges of cultural diversity in educational, social, and professional contexts, while promoting inclusion, mutual understanding, and social cohesion.

The master’s program lasts one year, for a total of 1,500 hours, corresponding to 60 academic credits (CFU), and will be structured as follows:
 

• Distance learning courses: 240 hours + 760 hours of independent study (40 CFU);
• Laboratories: 40 hours + 60 hours of independent study (4 CFU);
• Internship: 100 hours + 150 hours of independent study (10 CFU);
• Final Exam: 150 hours (6 CFU).

Attendance at the Master’s program is mandatory. To earn the degree, each participant must attend 100% of the online classes (distance learning) and at least 70% of the in-person classes and the internship.
At the end of the training program, there will be a final exam consisting of a project on one of the topics covered during the course.
Participants who hold a high school diploma are also eligible to enroll in individual modules—which count toward a Professional Development and/or Continuing Education course—up to a maximum of 2 (two). University academic credits associated with enrollment in individual modules are awarded following a standard assessment exam to be taken at the university and require enrollment and payment of the applicable tuition fee.
To be eligible for the Master’s program final exam, candidates must submit a specific application (degree application), along with payment of the required virtual stamp duty (€16.00) and a fee of €49.00 (virtual stamp duty and diploma issuance fee) via the PagoPA system by accessing their personal page and navigating to the “Secretariat → Payments” section.
The degree to be awarded by the University of Foggia is a Level I Master’s degree in “Interculturalism, Social Inclusion, and Mediation in Educational Contexts.”
This degree has academic standing and requires the completion of 60 CFU as part of the academic program. Please note that the Master’s degree is awarded only to students enrolled in the entire Master’s program.

The master’s program is open to anyone who holds a first-level degree or a degree earned under the academic system in effect prior to Ministerial Decree 509/99, or equivalent qualifications.
You may also choose to enroll in individual modules of the Master’s program, each of which counts as an Advanced Training and/or Professional Development Course, with the corresponding CFU credits awarded.
Enrollment in individual Advanced Training and/or Professional Development Courses (up to a maximum of 2) is also open to anyone who holds a high school diploma.
Foreign citizens who wish to enroll in the master’s program must comply with the provisions set forth in the MIUR circular, which can be viewed at Link and on the University's website at Link .
