Criminal Proceedings, the Constitution and Other Powers

The Course focuses on an in-depth examination of the relationships between criminal proceedings and other powers that influence the judicial authority exercise. It aims to assess the impact of such relationships on the independence, impartiality and neutrality of the judiciary. The lectures will therefore address, on the one hand, the exercise of the legislative power and the possible involvement of the executive in other public powers and, on the other hand, the possible influence of private powers (the media through media trials) and other factors (technological innovation and the use of artificial intelligence).

The Inter-University Winter School is aimed at PhD students, PhD holders, and researchers in criminal procedural law, to establish a common educational framework. It will take place over four days of study, divided into seven sessions, each of which will focus on a specific aspect of the selected topics.

The Winter School is organized by the University of Foggia in collaboration with the University of Catania, the Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Trento, the Unitelma Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Insubria, the LUM “Giuseppe De Gennaro” University, the University of Salerno, the Giustino Fortunato Telematic University, the LUMSA University and Guglielmo Marconi University.
 

The Winter School administrative headquarters is the University of Foggia.
The Winter School activities will take place in Asiago. Food and accommodation expenses will be borne by the participants.
 

The course will take place from 29 January to 1 February 2026. The training programme offers the participants an educational training programme, held during the afternoons of the indicated days, consisting of different and integrated formats.
The lectures will be complemented by presentations from the participants, through a dedicated call for papers. Attendance of 100% of the hours indicated in the teaching programme is compulsory.
 

At the end of the training activities, participants will be required to complete a final assessment consisting of an essay on one of the topics covered during the lectures. The essay will be published in a collective volume, subject to its positive evaluation. The participants who attend the Course and pass the final examination will be awarded a Participation Certificate and 4 academic credits.

The Winter School is open to all those holding a master’s degree or a degree in Law obtained under the regulations in force prior to Ministerial Decrees 509/99 and/or 270/2004 or another equivalent qualification.

A further admission requirement is enrolment in a PhD programme or a PhD title.
