Dental Hygiene: Appropriateness and Management of Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy

The Advanced Training Course aims to provide a training program designed to deepen theoretical and practical knowledge, enabling participants to make appropriate therapeutic decisions for non-surgical periodontal treatment in cases of chronic conditions, while equipping both practicing professionals and recent graduates with the skills and latest information on clinical protocols and procedures.
Chronic diseases—defined by the WHO as “health problems requiring continuous treatment over a period ranging from years to decades”—require interventions aimed at improving the clinical picture and functional status, reducing symptoms, preventing disability, and thereby improving quality of life. The presence of multiple conditions requires the involvement and collaboration of various professionals, including the dental hygienist, who—working alongside the dentist with an integrated approach from the very beginning of the patient’s care—enables comprehensive management of oral health, where the effects of chronic diseases are particularly pronounced. Particular attention will be given to the clinical application of the new periodontal classification and to techniques for controlling inflammation in the management of periodontal diseases, even in the presence of systemic conditions. The course will begin with data collection to formulate treatment plans and develop patient-centered care programs that take into account not only the clinical condition but also psychosocial needs, within a proactive framework that fosters the development of the patient’s ability to collaborate and engage in self-care, thereby ensuring improved clinical outcomes through increased satisfaction for both the patient and the healthcare professional.

The Advanced Training Course is open to anyone who holds a three-year bachelor’s degree or a first-level degree in Dental Hygiene, a university diploma in Dental Hygiene, or equivalent qualifications.
