General contents
The Level II Master’s Program in “Clinical Indications and Therapeutic Protocols for Laser Technology in Odontostomatology” is divided into six modules that will cover the following
topics:
- Module 1
An Introduction to the Anatomy of the Stomatognathic System. Introduction and Basic Principles of Laser Technology - Module 2
Review of the patient's medical history. Clinical and diagnostic evaluation and medico-legal implications - Module 3
The Use of Laser Technology in Restorative Dentistry, Orthodontics, and Pediatric Dentistry - Module 4
Photodynamic Approach in Dentistry Using the CO2 Laser - Module 5
Laser Applications in Surgery, Implantology, Endodontics, Prosthodontics, and Implant-Supported Prosthodontics - Module 6
Lasers and Technologies in Aesthetics. Biophotonics, Digitalization in Prosthodontics, Marketing, and Effective Communication
Learning objectives
The master's program is designed to provide theoretical and practical training for dentists, or medical doctors licensed to practice dentistry, who wish to deepen their expertise.
It therefore offers in-depth and comprehensive training in the field of dentistry, ranging from diagnostic protocols to the fundamentals of clinical signs and symptoms, the principles of medical treatment for the main oral and dental conditions, and the most sophisticated surgical techniques. Students will be equipped to make an informed choice among the various types of lasers available today and will acquire the basic knowledge needed to properly manage these technologies. The planned courses aim to expand theoretical and methodological knowledge by drawing on the most up-to-date findings from the international scientific literature and to promote the use of lasers in the field of dentistry and oral medicine, both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
A specific module will be dedicated to perioral conditions and cosmetic concerns, serving as a complement to the topics already covered: Theoretical and practical foundations will be provided for certain devices that have long been used by dentists or dental physicians, often without adequate training support or clear guidance on the relevant anatomical topography. In this context, ultrasonic spatulas, transdermal delivery, radiofrequency, and pulsed light will complement laser technology in a synergistic approach aimed at the common goal of “proaging.”
Organizzazione del corso
The master’s program lasts one year, for a total of 1,500 hours, corresponding to 60 academic credits (CFU), and will be structured as follows:
- Lectures: 216 hours + 684 hours of independent study (36 CFU);
- Laboratories: 12 hours + 38 hours of independent study (2 CFU);
- Practical exercises: 12 hours + 38 hours of independent study (2 CFU);
- Internship: 100 hours (4 CFU).
Attendance at the Master’s program is mandatory. To earn the degree, each participant must attend at least 70% of the class hours listed above.
Participants will take midterm exams at the end of each module.
At the end of the training program, there will be a final exam consisting of a thesis defense on one of the topics covered in the course and the internship completed.
The degree to be awarded by the University of Foggia is a Second-Level Master’s Degree in “Clinical Indications and Therapeutic Protocols for Laser Technology in Odontostomatology.”
This degree has academic standing and requires the completion of 60 CFU as part of the student’s academic program.
Admission requirements
The Master’s program is open to anyone who holds a Master’s degree—whether earned under the regulations in effect prior to Ministerial Decree 509/99 or under the current regulations—in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, Medicine and Surgery, or equivalent degrees.
