EPM - European Project Management

EPM fundamentals

The EPM certification proves knowledge, skills and competences in project management in any market sector, based on the UNI 11648 standard.

In order to qualify the role of the Project Manager, AICA - the Italian Association for Information Technology and Automatic Calculation - offers the EPM certification pathway (European Project Management) on the basis of the UNI 11648:2016 standard, aimed at the national market of the Project Manager profession operating in any sector.

The EPM certification consists of two distinct and complementary phases:

  • EPM Fundamentals
  • EPM Professional

The EPM Fundamentals Certificate is obtained by passing two exam modules:

  • EPM Knowledge
  • EPM Ability
EPM Knowledge

The first module, EPM Knowledge, covers the fundamental knowledge of project management techniques (Project Management processes and behavioural competencies), certifying the skills needed to be able to start working in project management in companies and organisations. The module updates the previous ePMQ Fundamentals.

The module ascertains the required knowledge of Project Management that is considered useful or needed for all those who participate in projects or project teams in various roles, or who intend to qualify themselves (train professionally) with subsequent experience and training in the field of Project Management.

The module structure includes the following knowledge groups:

  • Project Management Concepts
  • Behavioural competencies
  • Contextual knowledge
  • Startup process group
  • Planning process group
  • Execution process group
  • Control process group
  • Closing process group

For more information on the exam programme, please refer to EPM Module 1 Syllabus – EPM Knowledge

The exam consists of 36 questions (multiple choice). The duration of the test is 60 minutes. To qualify, 27 questions shall be answered correctly (pass-rate: 75%). Pens and papers or calculators are allowed during the test.

EPM Ability

The EPM Ability module (equivalent to ECDL Project Planning) complements the theoretical knowledge acquired with EPM Knowledge, by introducing practical skills related to the use of project management software applications (planning and correlation of activities, control of resources, costs and progress, document preparation). The test is now also available in the MS Project 2016 version, as well as in the ProjectLibre version.

For more information on the exam programme, please consult EPM Ability Syllabus – ECDL Project Planning

The exam test is based on the use of a project management programme (MS Project 2013/2016 or ProjectLibre) and consists of 36 questions (mostly practical), in a simulated version or as an in-application test.

The duration of the test is 45 minutes. To qualify, 27 questions shall be answered correctly (pass-rate 75%).

On passing the EPM Knowledge and EPM Ability modules, the candidate obtains the EPM Fundamentals certificate.
